What it is
What is DTG Printing?
DTG works like a giant inkjet printer that prints water-based pigment ink directly onto the fabric of a cotton garment. Because the ink absorbs into the fibre, the print is soft to the touch with photo-quality detail — perfect for highly-detailed, photo-realistic artwork on cotton t-shirts.
DTG works best on 100% cotton (or high-cotton blends) and on light-to-medium colour bases. For dark bases we lay a white-ink underbase first.
How it is done
The dtg printing process
- Pre-treatment. Garment is sprayed with a pre-treatment solution that helps ink absorb cleanly.
- Cure 1. Pre-treat is heat-pressed for 30 seconds.
- Print. CMYK + W inks are printed directly onto the garment.
- Cure 2. Final heat-press cures the inks at 165°C.
